It provides an opportunity to build confidence, develop new skills and connect with a community that shares her passion.
For 16-year-old Adelaide, life is a balancing act.
Living in regional South Australia, Adelaide is completing Year 10 through homeschooling while taking on the responsibilities of a young carer.
Every day, she helps care for her older sister, who lives with Autism and multiple chronic health conditions, including Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS). Alongside her caring role, Adelaide also supports her family with household responsibilities.
Despite these challenges, Adelaide has found something that gives her confidence, focus and a sense of belonging — archery.
Living in regional South Australia means accessing coaching, training sessions and competitions comes with significant travel and financial costs. Like many talented young people living in regional areas, the cost of pursuing a passion can quickly become a barrier.
Recently, Adelaide also received her own primary diagnosis of POTS. As she learns to manage her own health, continuing with archery has become even more important for both her physical and mental wellbeing.
Thanks to a Variety Heart Scholarship, Adelaide can continue pursuing the sport she loves without the financial pressure that often comes with specialised training and travel.
The scholarship helps remove barriers that might otherwise prevent Adelaide from reaching her goals, allowing her to focus on building her skills, maintaining her wellbeing and continuing to thrive despite the challenges she faces.
At Variety SA, we know that every child deserves the opportunity to discover their strengths and reach their full potential. Through our scholarships, we're proud to support children and young people who show determination, resilience and passion, helping them access opportunities that may otherwise be out of reach.
The Variety Heart Scholarship Program is proudly supported by the Grahame Mapp Family Foundation.

Helping South Australian kids reach their potential
Every year, Variety SA provides scholarships that help children across South Australia pursue their dreams in areas including sport, the arts, education and leadership.
For young people like Adelaide, this support is about much more than financial assistance. It's about creating opportunities, building confidence and ensuring that circumstances or location don't stand in the way of their future.
Because when children are given the chance to follow their passions, incredible things can happen.
Together, we can help every child find their confidence, pursue their passion and reach their full potential.
There are many talented children across South Australia whose potential is limited only by financial barriers. By supporting the Variety Heart Scholarship program, you can help more young people like Adelaide access the opportunities, equipment, coaching and experiences they need to thrive.
