Variety Aussie Muscle Car Motorsport Requirements

These requirements are designed to help keep everyone safe and ensure your vehicle is ready for the journey.

Licencing

Motorsport Australia Licence

If you're competing in motorsport you must have a current Motorsport Australia Licence.

If you do not already have a Motorsport Australia Licence, download the form below and send it to [email protected] to be processed.

AASA Day Licence

If you're competing in the motorsport at Bordertown Airfield, you'll need an AASA Day Licence which can be applied for via the link below.

Memberships

Motorsport Australia Affiliated Car Club Membership

To have a Motorsport Australia Licence, you must also have a Motorsport Australia affiliated car club membership.
If you do not have a Motorsport Australia affiliated car club membership, Variety will arrange a Sporting Car Club of South Australia membership for you.

Equipment

Fire Extinguisher

Minimum 1kg Powder Fire Extinguisher that has been inspected within 2 years of event date.

Exception for AS1841 standard extinguishers is within 3 years of event date.

Must be mounted using a metal bracket, fixed to the vehicle with high-tensile bolts or equivalent.

Plastic brackets are not acceptable (as per MA scrutineer)

Rivets and “Tek” screws are not acceptable (as per MA scrutineer)

There are fire extinguisher brackets that meet the requirements and attach to the front seat mount bolt. See example below, available from www.autosport.com.au (Adelaide-based)

Tow Points

All vehicles are required to have tow points on the vehicle, front and rear.

All tow points are to be marked by a “TOW” sticker on the body indicating the location.

If your vehicle has factory-fitted tow points, these are acceptable.

If your vehicle does not have any tow points, the following can be used attached to an existing bolt:

Drivers Apparel

Clothing

Clothing must extend from ankles to neck to wrists. Clothing and footwear of flammable synthetic type material such as nylon is not acceptable. The wearing of thongs, sandals and/or high heeled shoes is not permitted.

Headgear

It is compulsory to wear helmets on track at all times.

Helmets must bear the Australian Standard 1698 and must not have been modified from its specification as manufactured except in compliance with instruction approved by the manufacturer.

Vehicle Criteria

The AMCR is open to cars built from 1963 up to and including 1988 plus model overruns that are a replica of a car that raced at Bathurst. Cars outside of this criteria can seek special dispensation from Variety.

* Replica cars are also eligible.
* Any special interest vehicles will also be considered.
