Before You Apply

A strong application will demonstrate the following:

• Unmet need i.e. it cannot be met through the organisation's own funding, through government or other organisation funding;
• Direct benefit to the children in the care of the organisation
• You must be able to demonstrate a genuine need for the funding.

You may be eligible if your organisation supports children who are:

Aged 0–18 years, living in South Australia and are sick, living with disability, or experiencing disadvantage.

Documents Required To Apply

Two quotes for the item/s

• From two suppliers
• Less than 2 months old
• Must include GST
• Must include delivery costs & installation if applicable

The two quote rule can be varied where there is only one supplier. Variety reserves the right to use preferred suppliers.

Organisation Financials

Most recent financial statement e.g. balance sheet, profit & loss statement.

How the Application Process Works

Our team carefully and confidentially reviews every application. You will be notified of the outcome within 6–12 weeks. If approved, the grant must be used within 12 months of the approval date.

Application

Fill in the form, include all relevant documentation and quotes if applicable.

Assessment

Our team reviews your application to make sure it meets the guidelines and may request additional Information if required. If eligible, it will be reviewed by our Kids’ Support Committee then if recommended the application will go to the Variety Board for final approval.

Outcome

Every submitted application will receive written confirmation of the outcome of their application via email.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Variety SA does not provide cash grants. Funding supports the purchase of approved equipment and tangible items. Payments are made directly to the supplier, not to the applicant. Reimbursements will only be considered in exceptional circumstances and must be pre-approved where direct payment by Variety SA was not possible.

No. Funding must be approved prior to the purchase of any equipment or services. Variety does not provide retrospective funding.

Once your grant is approved, you have 12 months from the approval date to use the funding.

Committee meetings are held monthly. However, the full assessment and deliberation process may take approximately 6–12 weeks from the date your application is submitted.

Yes. If requesting more than one item or service, applicants must clearly prioritise the items within their application.

Yes. Organisations that support both children and adults can apply, provided the funding requested will directly benefit the children.

There is no strict funding limit. However, Variety aims to fill the gaps and prioritises requests where there are no alternative sources of support. If the Variety Grants Committee believes funding may be available through another agency, you may be referred elsewhere unless you can demonstrate why that support is not accessible.

No, the applicant can only use the funds granted by Variety for the specified goods or services that the grant has been approved for. The funding is non-transferrable.
